Camping Mat Foam

If you are looking to make something out of foam, that is thicker than foamies and yet thinner and much more flexible compared to pink insulation foam, camping mat foam will work great. You can easily purchase it at army surplus stores or buy it online. It is 3/8th of an inch thick, is easily shaped using a heat gun and glues together with hot glue. It works best to pattern out anything you are going to make out of the foam on paper first.

Tips

If you are working with camping mat foam and hot glue have a steady supply of ice cubes at hand. After you have put the glue between the pieces of camping mat foam, hold it together for a few seconds, then while the pieces are still together, rub the ice cube over the hot glue that is sticking out. Not only will this cool the hot glue in a matter of seconds, it will also smooth out the glue.
