Kryolan Aquacolor:
Benefits
- Available at cosworx
- fast-drying
- less-likely to rub off
- easy to remove
Negatives include
- Uneven appearance overall, even after multiple layers
- difficulty in adding multiple layers
- does still rub-off slightly
- requires water medium to apply (not easy to touch-up on the go)
Notes
Kryolan Aquacolor is a water-soluble makeup, generically refered to as "moist cake makeup" it requires water to apply, and can also be removed easily in water. This means that the first layer goes on exceedingly fast with a wet sponge, but that if you go over any place makeup is already applied with the same wet sponge, it will remove the makeup. This effect can be lessened if one sprays a fixative on in between adding layers, but it will still occur and give an uneven appearance. It can be premixed with water (distilled water if planning to store long-term) into a paste or a fluid for the purpose of touchups. Kryolan will stay on over the oils of your face, but can start to drip when you sweat. The ideal application of kryolan is with a paintbrush over an oil-soluble makeup, or as a base under an oil-soluble makeup.
Ben-Nye Creme Foundation:
Benefits include
- Even application
- no medium required
- high durability
- easy to touch-up on the go
- Good for blending lines and colors on the skin
Negatives include
- Difficult to remove fully
- Will rub-on to others in casual contact
- not available at cosworx
- Cannot be used on latex
Notes
Creme makeup is oil-based makeup, which can be applied directly to the skin with no water or other medium required. The layers are extremely easy to apply evenly, so long as a fixative is used in-between each layer, and the more layers applied the more realistic the effect. Creme makeup must be properly set with face powder or it will come off on others with casual contact, and will rub-off a bit on whatever you're wearing. Its easy to do touch-ups while wandering around, since it can be painted directly on, but excessive buildup can give the skin an oily appearance, especially if one is prone to oily skin. It won't come off when you sweat, but, for that matter, it won't really come off in just water, either. It can be removed with soap and warm water, cold cream, or other general makeup removers. Creme makeup and moist cake makeup work GREAT in conjunction with each other, especially if you combine them in layers together, since their properties tend to compliment. Ben-nye cannot be purchased at cosworx, but you can find it on google easily.

PAX
Benefits include
- Extremely Opaque
- Superior durability
- Flexible, won't crack
- Unlimited range of colors
Negatives include
- Most difficult to remove
- Pros Aide must be special ordered
- Must be mixed up prior to use or bought premixed at a premium (with a lower color selection)
- Tacky when cured.
- Can Stain numerous surfaces prior to drying.
Notes
PAX merely refers to a 50/50 mixure of Pros Aide prosthetic adhesive, and Liquitex Acrylic paint. The formula was pioneered for the movie Tootsie to be heavy enough to cover beard stubble. It provides a solid color base that is flexible and resists cracking or flaking. Liquitex can be purchased at any craft store and easily mixed to provide an infinate range of colors. May be applied with brush or sponge. Brushes should be cleaned immediately following use. Unless prepaired for an extremely long cleanup, PAX should be kept out of hair. PAX is removed by soap, water, and patience, or specialized Pros-aide removers (Such as Bond-Off! by Ben Nye) or further specialized PAX removers may be employed. PAX should only be applied over drop cloths. It will stain most porous substances (especially fabric), sometimes permanently. It is not reccomended to be applied in the field for touchups - but touchups are generally never ever needed.
