Pile

The nap of the fabric (when the fabric is brushed in one direction it looks like a different color; velvet and corduroy are good examples, but most cosplayers will find faux fur a better reference). Lay all pattern pieces so that the pile is going in it's natural direction. For example, the down pile would be down the leg, so if you pet it, the pile goes in a natural direction. Be sure ALL pieces are going in the correct direction or it will look funny and often appear a different color.
