How to make a Sailor Senshi Bow
Materials
Tools
- Scissors
- Pins
- Way to sew the material
Procedure
Step 1: Cutting the Fabric
Cut two of the following shapes out of fabric (45" wide).- 11"x 18" - Back Bow
- 7" x 15" - Front Tail
- 7" x 13" - Front Bow
- 7" x 60" - Back Tail
- 11"x 18" - Back Bow
- 7" x 15" - Front Tail
- 7" x 13" - Front Bow
Step 2: Pinning & Marking

Place the three layers on top of each other for the Front Bow, Front Tail and Back Bow. Pin layers together. Put in the order of interfacing, top, back, with the back facing you.
Lay out the 3 stacks of fabric.
For the back bow, draw a vertical line through the center of the fabric. Mark two spots 2.5" from the tom and bottom. Draw a line from the top point to the top corners and the bottom point to the bottom corners.
For the front tail, draw a vertical line through the center of the fabric. Place the two markings 2" from the top and bottom of the fabric. There should be 5 inches in-between them. Draw a line from the top point to the top corners and the bottom point to the bottom corners.
For the Front Bow draw a vertical line through the center of the fabric. Place the two markings 2" from the top and bottom of the fabric. There should be 3" in-between them. Draw a line from the top point to the top corners and the bottom point to the bottom corners.
For the back tail, start at the top left and right corners and measure out 9.5". Mark those spots. Draw a diagonal line from those spots to the left and right bottom corners. The lines should be 11" long.
Step 3: Stitching and Trimming
Sew along lines and 1/2" from the edge. Tip: Curve the seam at inside corners & leave an opening about 3" wide along the inside curve.
Trip off extra fabric from 3/8" from the seam. Also trim facing as close to the seam as possible.

Also trim corners & make cuts along curved inside. Be careful not to cut the seam.
Step 4: Pulling and ironing
Pull inside out at the corners through the opening
Use a point, like a dull pencil to poke out the crumpled corners
Pin opening closed & Iron well. Then stitch the opening shut

Step 5: Folding
Find the center of each item and work from there, relying on your eyes for symmetry - or you can just measure it out.

See diagram for the folding concept.
Fold for front bow, tail and back bow. The back tail is the only piece with 2 folds.
Holding the folds securely, stitch down the center to hold the folds. Use a heavy duty needle for this.
Step 6: Piecing together
Front Bow - Place front bow on top of the front bow tail, center and stitch again, or tack down if it is too thick.

Back bow - Repeat the same steps you did with the front bow.
Step 7: Finishing
Pucker the edges of the Front Bow, shape and place heart or medallion in the center. Pin where to tack down and attach.

Do the same for the back bow, but cut and sew a small strip of fabric to place around the center to represent a 'knot.'
Sew the strip in the back to hide the seams and stitches
Step 8: Attachment
Attach bows to garment with a safety pin or snaps. Place towards the center of the bow.
